BBOP releases 'Standard on Biodiversity Offsets', 25th January 2012
25th January 2012. T
he Environment Bank warmly welcomes the release this week of the Business and Biodiversity Offsets Programme (BBOP) report on 'Standard on Biodiversity Offsets'. The report provides a key source of guidance when considering, designing and implementing biodiversity offsets and, along with the 'BBOP Biodiversity Offsetting Principles', offers a solid foundation for achieving high quality biodiversity offsets that aim to provide significantly more, better and cost-effective conservation outcomes through infrastructure development. The Environment Bank's CEO, Tom Tew, commented that "Offsetting has been used all over the world to help deliver truly sustainable development - development that provides ecological, as well as economic, recovery. We are delighted to be members of BBOP's international advisory group and of course fully support the BBOP standards and principles. We will bring these to bear in ensuring that, through our Conservation Credits Exchange, biodiversity offsetting in the UK delivers real environmental gain.
