
Plantlife, of which Environment Bank Chairman David Hill is a trustee, has been awarded the CIEEM Best Practice Knowledge Sharing Award 2020 for Managing grassland road verges: a best practice guide.

This is fantastic peer recognition of a publication that was brought about through a collaborative partnership effort with Highways England, Natural England, Welsh Government, Transport Scotland and Nature.Scot, Skanska, Kier, Butterfly Conservation and The Wildlife Trusts.
Over 1000 copies of the guidelines are now in circulation and some of the best practice approaches highlighted in the guide already being translated into action on the ground.
This practical guide is for highways managers, road engineers, operations managers, landscape architects and all those engaged with verge management and creation. It covers those aspects previously described in the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges wildflower handbook and focuses on the management of lowland and upland grassland verges. Rob joined the Environment Bank team in 2018 and works on biological impact assessments, offset site searches and delivery. Rob also has experience in botanical surveying and in creating habitat management plans which he helps to monitor and advise on for Environment Bank’s offset sites.
Rob has over 6 years experience working as an ecological consultant in the private sector.
