Effective Nature-based Solutions are driven by collaborative partnerships – and Environment Bank can work with your team to build the right strategy from the ground up. Written by our CEO, Catherine Spitzer.

Since Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) became mandatory in 2024, Environment Bank has grown into the nation’s leading off-the-shelf BNG provider. Our portfolio is rapidly expanding, with more than fifty Habitat Banks across the country, all delivered by our team of over 150 experts spanning ecology, land management, legal, and nature markets.

Our experience in delivering high-integrity BNG has provided us with the capability and expertise to effectively tackle larger, more complex nature challenges across many different sectors. This enables us to successfully deliver strategic Nature-based Solutions that target businesses’ pain points and wider environmental commitments.

Demand for Nature-based Solutions is rising

While the market for statutory BNG grows, more and more businesses are now also looking for Nature-based Solutions – such as natural flood defences, species mitigation, and habitat compensation. Dedicated nature plans have become an expected inclusion in business strategy documents, board reports and other key strategic documents, leading to a growing demand for real, measurable nature action.

This may be daunting for many organisations, but with a committed partner that is equipped to support your nature requirements from inception, tangible environmental outcomes are well within reach.

Our services

I’m pleased to share that Environment Bank is now able to offer a much wider set of services than just offsite biodiversity units. We are launching four clear service lines:

  1. BNG: off-the-shelf Biodiversity Units sourced from our national network of over fifty Habitat Banks. We offer a wide range of flexible commercial options, including forward purchase agreements and bespoke Habitat Banks, that can support the unique nature and scale of your requirement.
  1. Environmental Consenting & Compensation: including species mitigation, HRA compensation, and other solutions that ensure de-risked delivery for complex sites and projects.
  1. Nature-based Resilience: projects that help protect assets from climate- and nature-related risks such as flooding, drought, heat, declining soil health, and more.
  1. Corporate Nature Partnerships: a long-term delivery partnership that supports nature strategies, offering products such as Nature Shares and bespoke programmes.

All of these work in concert, and whether you’re drawing from one, two, three or all four, they are built on the same foundational skill and expertise, so you’ll always be receiving the optimal service and the best resources.

Whether you choose to draw from one or all of our services, our dedicated team will ensure that your solution is the right fit for you.

When will this be available?

All of this is live and available today. This is not a soft launch or a preview of a new product range – these services are already on the market. All you need to do is make an enquiry and we’ll be in touch to discuss the next steps.

We have already restored more than four thousand acres of nature, supported thousands of development projects, and provided high-value solutions to a range of major companies. We have demonstrated how quickly and effectively Nature-based Solutions can scale. We’re now ready to take the next step – and we’re excited for you to join us.
