Habitat Bank overview
With a stream running along its entire northern boundary, Shipston-on-Stour Habitat Bank covers fifteen acres of land where we’re creating a space perfect for native wildlife to thrive. This includes notable reptile and amphibian species, like grass snake and common toad, which will benefit from new habitats placed alongside the stream, Pig Brook, helping to connect the landscape.
BNG delivery
At every Habitat Bank, we always look at the land to determine what can be achieved from the very start. Our biodiversity experts assess the soil, wildlife, vegetation, geology, hydrology, management history, and connectivity across the local landscape.
We take a baseline for each Habitat Bank using the statutory biodiversity metric. We carefully select the best possible habitats for us to establish so we can deliver and demonstrate measurable biodiversity gains over time.

Our vision
Less than ten miles from Stratford-upon-Avon, our Shipston-on-Stour Habitat Bank has been designed by our team of ecologists to reflect Warwickshire’s historical natural landscape and complement the grassland restoration already underway on the surrounding farm.
Our work will be able to positively impact the local ecological network alongside Pig Brook and the neighbouring areas southwest of Shipton-on-Stour.
The Habitat Bank sits within a flood zone which sees localised flooding from the brook during periods of high rainfall. The changes our ecologists are making to the land – creating and enhancing valuable habitats – will help to improve the health of the soil, with the potential to make the land better able to store and manage water, making the space more resilient against flooding.
Local people will be able to witness the land transform over the next thirty years as they use the footpath running through the Habitat Bank.
